Oil prices plunge, the Middle East boils over, and two Saudi families seek refuge in Dubai.
synopsis
In a not so distant future, an unexpected advance in clean alternative fuel sources causes oil prices to plunge to just pennies to the barrel. While the rest of the world rejoices, an already unstable middle east spirals into chaos. The poor revolt and the rich flee. Their countries, built on the once precious resource, are now in ruins.
In Saudi Arabia two families, one wealthy one poor, join together on a journey to the paradise city of Dubai the last safe haven in the region. When they arrive they find their journey is only beginning...

also a great idea! it's a good twist on the usual tale of the oil STRUGGLE in the middle east. and dubai is a great backdrop...although i'm unclear why there is one rich family and one poor one. but i would definitely see it.

Thanks for the feedback, allison. I agree dubai would be an amazing setting for any story. I'm not sure why it hasn't been visited in a movie to date since its like the Vegas of the middle east.
With regard to the 1 rich and 1 poor family, I wanted to draw attention to the vast gap between the wealthy and the poor in the region. In America I feel that this gap is filled in by the middle classes which provides opportunities for upward movement, the 'American Dream' if you will. In 'soil' the crash of oil markets will bring down the upper class in the middle east and with the lack of economic diversity in the region, will effectively narrow this gap. The two family relationship, especially between the children, would take shape as they realize that they're not that different after all.
